High potential - high voltage transformer

BV 2378005a

Customer’s demand

In our nuclear-physical lab several ion sources ionise nuclear fission products. For this purpose we built up a 30 kV high voltage platform. The tentative devices like a Penning trap mass spectrometer need a power supply that is at a potential of 30 kV above earth. The whole power is 20 kVA in three phase connection.

Solution

We build a 30 kVDC isolating transformer with vector group Dy5n. Like this it’s also possible to operate large monophase unbalanced loads. The high voltage separation is done by a vacuum potting with epoxy resin. The field force during operation is max. 3 kV/mm so the delectric doesn’t polarise too much and is only slightly stressed.
